Writing Prompt #214

Descriptions can pose a problem when you write. For example, how would a man describe a hoop skirt, lacy pantaloons and a crinoline? They wouldn’t know the name for those things, so if you’re following his POV, you can’t just state the girl wore a crinoline. Also, if you do choose to describe something like that, recognize that a fellow wouldn’t be too interested in clothing beyond how loose or constricting it might be.

So for today’s prompt, describe an object or place from the point of view of a person who isn’t familiar with what they are looking at. What terms would they use to describe what the see? What do they know that they can compare things to? Would they go in to detail on what they see or skip all description?
