This morning, I received an email from someone complaining that I hadn’t completed something. I started it yesterday afternoon before leaving work, but it is an extremely time-consuming task that takes–well, forever.
He wanted it done so that the search engines could index the information before the beginning of the month. This is a task that normally would be completed the final week of the month, so I’m earlier than usual. People can come up with some extremely creative reasons something needs to be done “right now” if they want something done in less time than it’s humanly possible to accomplish the task.
So for today’s prompt, think of a job your main character knows they need to do. Now add another person riding their ass to complete the task sooner than is possible. How to they cope with the added tension? Is it irrelevant? Do they flip out? I told the guy I’m working on it, and that it’s time consuming (subtle way to tell him to be patient?) and that it should be completed by the end of today.
