Writing Prompt #85

Two days until NaNo. Is everyone ready? Gasp. I still haven’t figured out enough of the plot for the steampunk idea, and the magical realism fizzled near the beginning (although I’ll return to it later).

So for today’s prompt, think about the three-quarter mark of your story. This is the point where everything looks completely bleak for your character (think Frodo in Mordor trudging past Shelob and up the winding stairs, weighed down by the ring and hemmed in by orcs). How (and why) do things look hopeless for them? This might also be a place to think about how those inner and outer goals resulted in their situation. Thinking about character arc, what choice will they have to make at this point that would start to resolve things?
